What to expect in therapy with Ashley

It’s very normal to feel some nerves when meeting a new therapist. My priority is to help you feel at ease, and most people find that the atmosphere becomes comfortable quickly! Both the free consultation and the assessment session are gentle starting points where we can get to know each other. We’ll explore what has brought you to therapy and begin thinking about how we can meet your therapy goals. There is no pressure to share anything before you’re ready. You’re welcome to go at your own pace and talk about whatever feels manageable. These early sessions are simply a space to see whether we feel like a good therapist/ client  match — something that plays an important role in effective therapy.

The number of sessions people choose varies widely. It depends on what you’d like to work on, how long the difficulties have been present, and how much they’re affecting your day‑to‑day life. Some people prefer a shorter, focused piece of work; others find that a longer process suits them better. As a general guide, many structured treatments fall between 10 and 20 sessions, but everything is tailored to your individual needs and goals. My approach is person‑centred, collaborative, and shaped around what matters most to you (aka your goals and values).

I also offer top‑up sessions for clients who would like a refresher or support in maintaining progress from previous therapy.

There is no fixed timeline for ending therapy. You’re free to bring our work to a close whenever it feels right for you or we can plan this together to ensure a thoughtful, supportive ending.
